Rep. Maria Ruud

Rep. Maria Ruud

2007 session wrap-up

For the first time in eight years the Legislature finished its budget work on time. Highlights of some key legislative bills signed by the Governor:

K-12 FUNDING (HF2245)
New money over the next biennium for public school districts means increases of about $4.9 million for Hopkins District #270, about $4.7 million for Eden Prairie District #272 and about $4.0 million for Minnetonka District #276. (Final figures are still pending.)

HEALTH CARE (HF1078)
An additional 37,000 Minnesota children will have health insurance.

ENERGY REFORM (SF4, SF145)
These bills require 25 percent of the state's energy to come from renewable resources by 2025 and set a course for 80 percent reduction of carbon emissions by 2050.

Please go here
for more details about these significant bills.

The Governor vetoed the transportation and tax bills passed by the Legislature.

Rep. Ruud will now return to her work as a nurse practitioner until the 2008 session starts, but please feel free to call or write her anytime with questions or concerns.

News and notes from Senate District 42

DFL-led Legislature adjourns on time with legislative victories
Let's celebrate key accomplishments of the DFL leadership in the House and Senate: new money for school districts for the next biennium, access to health care for an additional 37,000 Minnesota children, the strongest Renewable Energy Standard in the nation, and successul closure of some corporate tax loopholes.

We would like to thank our DFL House District 42A representative, Maria Ruud, for all of her hard work that helped make the victories possible. Please take a moment to send her an email showing your appreciation - just click on the email link in her column to the left. You can also thank Maria in a short letter to the editor of your local newspaper. For help in writing a letter to the editor, go here.
