Great ways to help our troops
- Help a Minnesota unit make a difference in Iraq
-
Here’s a good way to support Minnesota soldiers. The RAOC, a unit made up of soldiers from the Twin Cities and Montevideo areas, is stationed in Iraq. The unit has adopted an Iraqi school and is asking for donations of school supplies such as pens, pencils, notebooks, markers, hand-held pencil sharpeners, etc. They need anything that students in schools would need. If you can help, send the items to:
1st Sgt. Gregory Pederson
1-151 FA
APO AE 09378Items can be shipped using the flat rate box, which should cost $7.70 to mail as postage isn't based on weight.

- Booksforsoldiers.com
- This non-profit corporation is operated as a ministry of a non-denominational church. It works to get paperbacks and other books out to members of the military. It’s founder has been doing this since the Gulf War.
- Anysoldier.com
- This organization started as a simple family effort to help their son, who parachuted into Northern Iraq in 2003. The conditions the soldiers were living in were very rough, so they sent care packages as often as they could. They wanted to help other soldiers serving with their son, so they began asking friends and neighbors for help. They’ve grown into a registered non-profit organization.

Summer is a tough time for our local food shelf. Kids are home from school, so many families’ resources are further taxed by feeding kids lunch. Donations are down, as well, as many groups holding food drives don’t meet until fall. Please consider a monetary donation or feel free to drop off non-perishable food items at PROP. The program provides food and clothing to residents of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen who are in need. The children’s clothing closet has clothes through size 16. Gently used sheets and blankets are always appreciated, as well.
PROP also provides transportation, emergency financial assistance, information and referrals to other agencies. Volunteer opportunities always exist. Please contact PROP (People Reaching Out to Other People) directly for more information. They’re located in the Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road. Their phone number is (952) 937-9120.
